Tim Hebert – The Intentional Leader

Download the Show Audio Here

Show Topic:

We have an overabundance of ‘leaders’ in our world today. But those who truly stand out are the ones who lead in a way that inspires employees to rally behind the organizational cause.

In this episode, host David Ciullo discussed with author Tim Hebert his book The Intentional Leader, practical advice that provide an essential guide to cultivating an authentic, effective, and sustainable approach to leadership.

About The Guest:

Tim Hebert loves a good climb.

He appreciates the multiple points of perspective it provides, be it looking up, down or sideways. He delights in the lack of equilibrium caused by the weight of a backpack and incline juxtaposed with the freeness that comes in inching closer to the summit. He celebrates the unique obstacles it throws without warning—from harsh conditions to treacherous terrain. But, more importantly, he recognizes the leadership lessons derived along the way.

To Tim, every business hurdle and personal challenge mimics a climb, presenting both accomplishment and steep, seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Those challenges, Tim believes, are really just masquerading as untapped opportunities—the chance to do something different and better.

A perennial entrepreneur, innovator and adventurer, Tim sees the opportunity to affect change everywhere and is passionate about helping others do the same. A voracious author and seasoned speaker, he enjoys exploring concepts related to intentional leadership, business transformation and professional and personal introspection. A business owner for well over two decades—and the current CEO of Trilix, a business and technology consulting firm—he believes leaders can and need to do better. He believes effective leaders need to embrace the climb.

Show Topic:

Companies put significant time and energy into creating and maintaining confidential and proprietary information.

Similarly, companies are aware that investing in employee growth is necessary to maintain happy and healthy employees. What can employers do to protect these valuable assets during the “Great Resignation?

”In this episode of HR Power Hour, join co-host Tawny Alvarez as she speaks with Verrill Attorney Robert Brooks about steps that employers can take to protect confidential and proprietary information (as well as ever-important client relationships) from being lost to competitors during the Great Resignation using restrictive covenants.

During this episode they will discuss non-solicitation clauses, confidentiality provisions, and an employer’s ability to use a non-compete clause or agreement.

That’s on this week’s HR Power Hour

About The Guest:

Rob provides advice and representation to management on all aspects of the employment relationship. He works with clients engaged in construction, health care, manufacturing, transportation, utilities, and other industries throughout the country. Rob has successfully handled matters related to union organizing campaigns, collective bargaining, unfair labor practice charges, strikes, and arbitration.

Rob routinely handles claims for wrongful discharge, discrimination, unpaid wages, breach of non-compete and non-solicitation agreements, and other disputes before judges, juries, and administrative agencies, and has successfully represented clients at all levels of the state and federal court systems. Rob also regularly provides advice and assistance to clients on proper termination procedures, Family Medical Leave Act issues, labor relations, disability issues, stock option and employee benefits disputes, and other matters.

Rob has a particular focus on negotiating project labor agreements for large-scale construction projects. Rob has also advised public and private entities concerning the lawful use of project labor agreements in the context of a state’s competitive bidding laws.

Show Topic:

Have you recently typed into a search engine, “what are signs of burn-out”?

Have you read articles designed to help you identify and combat burnout? Many HR leaders have—whether attempting to identify the symptoms in team members or in themselves.

On this episode of HR Power Hour, join Tawny Alvarez, from Verrill, as she talks with Anush Hansen, Certified Career Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, and creator of the Work-Life Balance Assessment, as they discuss career counseling and how companies can help to both pro-actively limit employee burnout and (unfortunately) how to respond if it’s too late to be proactive.

Helping employees re-center their work-life balance and return to a more happy, healthy, and productive career.

About The Guest:

Anush Hansen, MA, MS, LPC, CCC, is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Maine, a Certified Career Counselor credentialed by the National Career Development Association, the owner of Kennebunk Career & Wellness Counseling and Balanced Card Sorts, and the creator of the Career Counseling Connectiononline directory.

She received her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of New Hampshire in 2011. Upon completing her degree, Anush worked as a counselor at the University of New Hampshire Counseling Center, the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Counseling Center, and Seacoast Mental Health Center in New Hampshire. Prior to her work as a counselor, Anush received a master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Massachusetts in 2001 and worked for 17 years as a public health and health promotion researcher on numerous physical activity, nutrition, cancer screening, environmental health, substance abuse prevention, and other projects at the University of Southern Maine, the University of Vermont, and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

This work regularly required Anush to develop and test assessment tools and survey instruments for collecting and assessing health-related data. It is Anush’s background in health promotion and public health that fuels her commitment to using a holistic, wellness-centered approach when working with clients, and that helped to shape the Work-Life Balance Assessment. Anush lives in Maine with her husband, two children, a very energetic chocolate lab/Aussie mix, and two extremely fluffy cats.

She’s a member of the National Career Development Association, the Maine Career Development Association, the Career Counselors Consortium of the Northeast, and the Kennebunk, Kennebunkport & Arundel Chamber of Commerce.
