US Supreme Court decisions –

Having worked in HR and management in the private sector, Katy brings hands-on experience to her practice. Her client work primarily involves employment law, with a focus on discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage / hour issues.

Katy has litigated a number of employment cases in state and federal court, and routinely represents employers before the Maine Human Rights Commission. In addition, she advises employers on employment related matters including employee relations issues, performance management, leaves of absence, and the reasonable accommodation process.

After college and before attending law school, Katy completed a management training program with Hannaford Brothers Company and worked for this major New England grocery retailer in various capacities, including as a department manager and department specialist, managing inventory and margins, addressing employee relations issues, implementing corporate marketing programs, and preparing for new store openings in North Carolina and Virginia.

In addition, Katy has experience as a Human Resources Consultant at L.L. Bean, where she helped managers navigate the kinds of issues she advises her clients on today. After earning her law degree, Katy clerked for United States District Court Judge D. Brock Hornby.

Amy Volk
State Rep for House District 127
Scarborough, Maine

Highlighting current HR legislation –
Amy Volk is the State Representative for House District 127, which includes part of Scarborough in Cumberland County.

She has been appointed to serve on the Labor, Commerce, Research and Economic Development Committee for the 125th Maine State Legislature. Rep. Volk resides in Scarborough with her husband Derek, the Vice President of a third-generation family business, Volk Packaging Corporation. They have four children.

Rep. Volk is active in the local community as the Board Secretary for the Root Cellar, a founding member of the Scarborough Young Life Advisory Committee, a member of Moms in Touch (Scarborough Chapter), and a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit Parish Council. She has also served as the Board Secretary of The Children’s Theatre of Maine.

A graduate of Catherine McAuley High School in Portland, Rep. Volk went on to earn a B.S. in Human Development from the University of Maine. In addition to her legislative duties and community involvement Rep. Volk owns a small business and she has also worked as a substitute teacher. Rep. Volk’s personal interests include spending time with her family, running, Pilates, weight training, reading, and singing in her church’s worship band. She is also an expert softball, soccer, and figure skating spectator.
