Denise Dumont-Bernier, PT
Executive Director
Occupational Medical Consulting, LLC
OMC WellnessWorks

Changing Culture Through Well Being –

Denise Dumont-Bernier, PT, has been in the occupational health field for over 25 years, beginning her career as an on-site physical therapist contracted to Bath Iron Works. She subsequently opened her own private physical therapy practice in South Portland where she continued to focus on occupational rehabilitation, and contracted on-site with companies such as UnumProvident, Cole Haan, Saunders Brothers, Portland Press Herald, Pratt Abbot Cleaners and many others. She eventually sold the practice to a large, national health care organization and managed occupational medicine and rehabilitation practices, growing services from Southern Maine to Lewiston, Brunswick and Augusta.

She was then lured to direct the hospital-based occupational Medicine department at MaineGeneral Medical Center where she turned around an underperforming medical practice, to a successful, profitable contributor to the health organization, expanding market share and developing on site services for both occupational health and wellness. Through her employment with MaineGeneral Health, Maine’s 3rd largest health system serving the Greater Kennebec Valley Region, she worked with MaineGeneral’s many family practices, medical center services, and prevention/community services to offer an integrated solution to healthcare for employers in this region. She was also responsible for developing MaineGeneral’s Express Care services and the very successful Wellness services for over 4000 hospital employees and several businesses throughout the region.

Today, Denise serves as the Executive Director at Occupational Medical Consulting, (OMC WellnessWorks), a Maine based business recognized locally and nationally as a leader in effective health behavior change, health coaching and wellness designed to deliver results.  OMC offers leading-edge worksite-based health coaching, using behavior change motivational interviewing methods, supported by propriety wellness software that tracks and reports results.

She holds a baccalaureate degree in physical therapy from Simmons College, Boston. She has years of experience with providing on-site occupational health, industrial rehabilitation and with integrating worksite wellness services for many well-known Maine employers. She works strategically with business owners, safety and HR professionals to enhance employee health and wellbeing, and track results. Denise has been a member of the Maine Employers Mutual Insurance Company (MEMIC) medical advisory board for over 20 years and was the chairperson for the “Healthy People of the Kennebec Valley” business-driven worksite wellness council.   She has presented at numerous regional and national conferences on a variety of topics.

Denise has always been passionate about the injury prevention and the health and safety of Maine workers. She believes that employers have a critical role and the power to influence healthcare consumerism through their employees and their families. In partnership, a healthier community can be built, and healthy and productive employees mean healthier Maine businesses.
